What is the Hot Drinks Ministry?
Members of the New Song Network serve refreshments at Southampton Crematorium and Hollybrook Cemetery on days when it is perceived that many people will be laying flowers: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Mothering Sunday and Fathers’ Day. We do not go into this form of ministry with the intent to evangalise but to show our love to those who are broken-hearted and remembering their loved ones on these most difficult days in the year.
When and where do you serve refreshments?
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Mothering Sunday and Fathers’ Day from 10.00 am to 2.30 pm at Southampton Crematorium and Hollybrook Cemetery.
Why do you do it?
This is part of who we are as Christians. We are there to stand alongside others in their need and show them the love of Jesus. And we do it in this very practical – and so appreciated – way. One lady visiting her son’s grave on Mother’s Day said “You have made my day. I felt so sad and alone.” Another couple on Christmas Eve were glad of the coffee and mince pie as they undertook a yearly pilgrimage on their motorcycles to visit five cemeteries that day remembering various loved ones.
